The term 'spirituality' today is becoming more than a phenomenon. We see everyone talking about 'living a spiritual life' and 'spiritual journey' in today's world. So, have we thought about why this sudden importance is given to spirituality and what this term is all about?
Meaning of Spirituality
In today's complex world, there is a need to perform spiritual exercises in everyday life. How we imbibe spirituality in our routine life is both science and an art. Spirituality literally means reaching our ‘higher self’. In this technologically advanced world, where our needs and desires are related to getting that plush job or buying that branded tee or dining in a high-end restaurant, material pleasures are dominating the internal happiness that we should actually seek in life. Internal happiness is related to something beyond our ego, far away from our material needs, and is more of an ‘inside’ job. It is rightly said that you don’t need to have a high-end car or buy a fancy home to be happy.
The Self and self in Spirituality
Then what could make you happy? Your spiritual ‘Self’. Yes, the ‘Self’ with a capital S because in spirituality studies, ‘Self’ and ‘self’ are two different concepts. Self in spirituality is the holy spirit within us who knows better what we need on top of what we already think we know. Self is the spirit within us and our soul. As it’s rightly said, the Universe knows best. The small s represents our ego. It is because of this ‘self’ that we hold on to and try to control all things in life. When we let go of this ‘self’, it is only in this moment that we allow the universe to bless us with all the things that it has planned for. Detachment from our ego and the need to control all things will release the blocks that are getting in the way of our success and abundance in life. If we always practice our Self, with a capital S, then we can enjoy all the pleasures and benefits that the Universe gives us. We can accept with open hands all the blessings of the Universe. That is the reason why we should always be open to the Universe.
Spirituality and Law of Attraction
The Law of Attraction states that we can attract abundance and happiness in our lives only when we learn to enjoy the journey and not always think about the destination. We can reach our spiritual higher self only when we do things to our best potential without expecting any ‘outcomes’ from it.
Oftentimes, we human beings want everything from what we do. Even if we do certain things selflessly, we always want to achieve an outcome or there is some underlying expectation that we have while doing things. The Universe is watching us, and if we instill our full faith in the Universe, it will give us all the things that we deserve even before we ask for them. That is the beauty of the Universe, and it is essential to know this when we want to lead a spiritual life.
Happiness through Spirituality
It is often said that the most spiritual people are successful in life. This is true because they understand the key to success and how one can achieve success in life by giving their best and leaving the outcome to the Universe. As easy as it may sound, it is definitely difficult if not impossible to execute this practically. We are human beings and we have desires. Our ego always clings towards the outcomes and material things, whereas our spiritual self wants to give our best and just enjoy the journey. It is up to us to listen to our ego or to our spiritual self.
Spirituality is, therefore, reaching our selfless being where we let our soul bask in the small pleasures of daily life and derive happiness from everyday things rather than constantly wishing for big things to happen in life. On this note, let us promise ourselves to live a spiritual life and seek happiness in the things that we do rather than always clinging towards the outcomes!
